Lazar 3 Combat Vehicle High Level of Mobility and Protection
A major breakthrough in the protection of infantry units of the Serbian Armed Forces, along with a significant improvement in their operational capabilities, was achieved by introducing Lazar 3, modern multi-purpose combat vehicles from Yugoimport-SDPR product range, into service.
This wheeled vehicle can be equipped with various types of weapons, such as a remote controlled weapon station with a 12.7 mm machine gun and a turret with a 30 mm gun, allowing it to effectively engage targets on the ground, such as lightly armored vehicles, command posts and live force, but also targets in the airspace, i.e. helicopters and drones.
The combat vehicle is in service with the infantry battalions of the Land Army. At the Borovac training ground near the Jug base, members of the 41st Infantry Battalion conduct various daily training sessions to maintain and improve their abilities to perform specific tasks.
The commander of Lazar 3 armored combat vehicle from this unit, Staff Sergeant Ivan Cvetković, emphasizes that with the introduction of the modern wheeled vehicle, the Serbian Armed Forces has gained mobility and points out that it is of great importance that a remote controlled weapon station and 82 mm smoke grenade launchers have been installed on the roof panel.
It is also possible to shoot from the vehicle, as there are five firing ports on the left side and five firing ports on the right side, and two more at the rear. With the introduction of Lazar 3 armored combat vehicle, our Armed Forces has stood shoulder to shoulder with the most modern Armed Forces and our infantry is equipped with the most modern vehicles of that rank in the world, said Staff Sergeant Cvetković, adding that the unit's members are also armed with M-19 modular rifles and M-20 assault rifles.
8x8 drive and modern independent suspension system for all eight wheels provide Lazar 3 armored combat vehicle with high cross-country capability and carrying capacity. The power pack is located at the front right part of the vehicle, in an area that is completely separated from the crew compartment, and the central drive distribution ensures the distribution of torque to all wheels. All axles are driven, while the first two are steered. The vehicle also has highly sophisticated modular ballistic and anti-mine protection, as well as an air conditioning system that ensures the functioning of the vehicle and crew in extreme weather conditions.
Lazar 3 wheeled vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour. It has exceptional maneuverability, allowing it to achieve a gradient of 60 percent and tilt of 30 percent, overcome a vertical obstacle of 0.55 meters, a two-meter ditch and a 1.6-meter fording obstacle.
